IShowSpeed Anime Series to Be Written by One Piece’s Matt Owens

Popular YouTube creator IShowSpeed is lending his voice — and high-energy personality — to an anime-style series in the works at Brian Robbins‘ Big Shot Pictures production start-up.

While plot details are being kept under wraps for now, the show will introduce an animated character of IShowSpeed, marking this as one of his first narrative-driven projects. Big Shot is set to go out with the package soon.

The series will be written by Matt Owens, who served as co-showrunner on the first two seasons of Netflix’s hit “One Piece” before announcing last year that he would be stepping away from that show to focus on his mental health. Owens also is set to produce alongside Robbins for Big Shot. In addition, filmmaker and actor Harmony Korine is attached as a producer.

IShowSpeed (real name: Darren Jason Watkins Jr.) has more than 52 million subscribers for his YouTube channel. The 21-year-old is known for his viral IRL streams and videos spanning sports, gaming, music videos, travel and more. IShowSpeed took home the Streamer of the Year top honors at the 2024 and 2025 Streamer Awards.

“I’ve always loved anime, so being able to create something like this is a dream come true for me,” IShowSpeed said in a statement. “The team behind this project is incredibly talented, and I can’t wait for my fans around the world to see what we’re building together.”

Robbins said, “Speed is a one-of-a-kind creative force whose ability to connect with audiences transcends borders and platforms. As a performer, he’s built a truly global fanbase, and we’re excited to help bring his voice and vision to life in a completely new way through this series.”

IShowSpeed is repped by CAA. Matt Owens is repped by CAA, Circle Management + Production, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

Robbins is the former co-CEO of Paramount Global who exited the company in August 2025 with the merger that formed Paramount Skydance. As head of Paramount Pictures, he oversaw the studio’s theatrical slate and major family franchises, including Sonic the Hedgehog, SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol.

He launched Big Shot Pictures earlier this year. The company has a first-look theatrical distribution deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment, spanning both animated and hybrid live-action films. In addition, Big Shot has acquired the rights to children’s book series “Eloise at the Plaza,” created by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight, for adaptation and expansion across multiple platforms, including film, TV and consumer products.

Big Shot Pictures is backed by investments from Greycroft, Sony Pictures Entertainment, MarcyPen Capital Partners, ValueAct Capital and CAA.
