Scottie Scheffler’s shoes pay ode to Seve Ballesteros at 2026 Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Scottie Scheffler is paying homage to a Masters legend Monday at Augusta National.

Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player whose wife Meredith welcomed the couple’s second child two weeks ago, showed up for a practice round ahead of the 2026 Masters rocking shoes with a double Nike logo. For those who have followed the Masters, the shoes should spark memories of 1986, when Seve Ballesteros did the same but on a visor.

As the story goes, Ballesteros, the first Spaniard to win the Masters in 1980 and again in 1983, was represented by Nike but didn’t wear hats often when he competed. At Augusta National in 1986, he bought a Masters visor and wore it during the early rounds.

Heading into the final round in second place, Ballesteros knew he was going to be on TV plenty, so he cut the Nike logo from two of his shirts and glued them over the Masters logo.

Ballesteros would go on to finish fourth, two shots behind Jack Nicklaus, who slid on the green jacket for the sixth time.

And Monday, Scheffler was rocking the stacked Nike logo on his shoes as he strolled off for a practice round with Sam Burns, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young on the back nine at Augusta National.

Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, hasn’t competed since a T-22 finish at the Players last month.
