How many putts will there be in the 2026 Masters? Looking at 2025 data

It’s time for the 2026 Masters, which means plenty of golf fans are setting their fantasy lineups for the tournament in the official Masters app.

The tiebreaker is a simple but complex question: How many total putts will be recorded by the field for the entire tournament? Seems like an easy answer, but it’s anything but. Yet it’s one that if you answer correctly, you could win an awesome Masters prize.

Masters Fantasy is simple enough for anyone to do once they create an account. Fans will pick a player from each of the following categories: Past Champions, Americans, International, First Timers and a Wild Card. Then there’s the tiebreaker.

The Masters media guide doesn’t provide total putts per year, but the average Masters winner averages about 114 putts per tournament. Last year, Rory McIlroy took 111 swipes on the greens en route to his victory.

How many putts in the 2025 Masters?

The Masters does not officially announce how many total putts there were in a given year. There were 8,798 putts in 2024, per Golf Monthly. Last year, that number was likely slightly higher because six more players teed it up in 2025 than did the year before.

As of March 31, there are 93 players in the field. Fifty-two players made the cut last year, so more than a third of the field won’t play the weekend, but that makes the average math a bit harder to calculate. How many players make the cut can be a difference of between 50 and 60 (or more) total putts.

Historical trends say the number is likely to fall between 8,500 and 9,000, but the Masters is genius for this being a tiebreaker question because it’s truly impossible to predict.

Official rules for Masters Fantasy can be found here, but don’t say we didn’t try to help you.
