BYD is set to unveil its flagship SUV under the Ocean Network series, the Sealion 08, at the Beijing Auto Show this April. The new model is expected to feature the second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging technology, achieving a pure electric range that could exceed 1,000 km.
This vehicle was first disclosed at BYD’s Ocean Day event last December and was expected to be launched in the first quarter this year.
Exterior design
The Sealion 08 will continue BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language, featuring the signature lighting design of Ocean Network models. A lidar system is mounted on the roof. The vehicle measures over 5,000 mm in length with a wheelbase exceeding 3,000 mm. Hidden door handles and a three-row seating configuration are expected.
Powertrain options
The new model will offer both DM-i plug-in hybrid and pure electric variants. The pure electric version will be equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, enabling rapid charging — approximately 5 minutes for a sufficient charge, 9 minutes for a full charge, and an additional 3 minutes in cold weather conditions.
The all-wheel-drive variant is projected to deliver a maximum power exceeding 480 kW (644 hp), with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time under 5 seconds.

Advanced technologies
Spy shots reveal fuel/charging ports on both sides, confirming the availability of DM-i hybrid variants. The Sealion 08 will feature rear-wheel steering for enhanced manoeuvrability. Additionally, it is expected to incorporate the DiSus-A system shared with the Denza D9, including dual-chamber air suspension with road preview capability.
Based on BYD’s current pricing structure, the Sealion 07 DM-i starts at 169,800 yuan (23,500 USD). CarNewsChina estimates the Sealion 08 could start between 210,000 and 230,000 yuan (30,400 and 33,300 USD), with high-end versions potentially reaching around 250,000 yuan (36,200 USD).
