Parenting children can be full of surprises, but sometimes those surprises are painful. Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page recently revealed a frightening bedtime mishap with her youngest daughter, Boe, that left her in agony and worried she had seriously injured her eye.

The 49-year-old actress, who’s in the latest series of Taskmaster, shares her children Eva, Kit, Noah and Boe with husband, former Emmerdale star James Thornton, described how a simple night routine quickly turned into a moment of panic – and a reminder that life with little ones is anything but predictable.

Speaking to Chris Ramsey and Rosie Ramsey on their podcast Shagged. Married. Annoyed., Joanna explained that Boe still occasionally sleeps in her bed, and one night that habit led to an unexpected accident.

“I was lying on my back, completely asleep, and Boe was right beside me,” the Love Actually star recalled. “Suddenly she lifted her foot, and her ankle landed right on my eye. I woke up in total shock – it hurt so much, I genuinely thought I’d burst my eyeball. The next morning, I couldn’t even move it.”

She added that the area under her eye still feels thick and tender, leaving her concerned about possible nerve damage. “I’ve been so drained lately that if something happens to my vision, I’ll have to manage it. That’s where my mind is at right now,” Joanna explained.

Despite the scary incident, Joanna said she is grateful for the lively and spirited household her children bring.

Joanna and James often share glimpses of their family life on her podcast, Lush!, where they discuss the joys and challenges of raising four children and share unfiltered stories about life and marriage.

Joanna is currently competing in the 21st series of Taskmaster alongside Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joel Dommett and Kumail Nanjiani. She also has a series about animals called Joanna Page’s Wild Life.
