Why Sergio Garcia is ‘not feeling amazing’ ahead of 2026 Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. — It was a lonely stroll on the first nine at Augusta National Golf Club for Sergio Garcia on Monday.
The 2017 Masters champion played nine holes by himself amongst the swaying pine trees and undulating fairways. He spent some time talking to fans, had a lot of words with his caddie and seemed to be searching for something.
“Not super happy at the moment, but we’re working, and we’ll see,” Garcia said of his game. “We’ll see what happens throughout the week. Yeah, at the moment I’m not feeling amazing.”
Not an encouraging sign for Garcia, who comes into the 2026 Masters having missed the cut in six of his seven appearances since sliding on a green jacket in 2017.
He said the course is shaping up to play firm and fast, and with little chance of rain in the forecast, Augusta National will provide a stern test for the world’s best this week. Garcia knows his game needs to be on point, so he’s trying to channel good memories in his search for success.
“There’s obviously good and bad, I guess,” Garcis said. “But fortunately there’s some really good moments here. You try to think a little bit of some of those that you’ve lived in the past, and hopefully you get more to build on.”
