Jamie Ding ‘Jeopardy!’ win streak hits 20; how much has he won?

Jamie Ding, a former standout pupil at a Michigan high school, continued to dominate on “Jeopardy!” Thursday, winning his 20th consecutive game.

He is now tied for the seventh most wins in the history of the long-running TV game show and he ranks sixth in terms of total prize winnings.

How much has he won?

On Thursday’s episode, Ding racked up another $33,027 in winnings, giving him a 20-day total of $572,600.

While Wednesday’s episode was a close call for Ding, Thursday’s was less dramatic. Prithish David, a financial consultant from Washington, D.C., finished in second with $6,500 while Alexandra Leith, an account manager from Dedham, Massachusetts, came in third with $5,399.

What’s next?

Ding will go for win No. 21 in Friday’s episode. In Detroit, “Jeopardy!” airs on WDIV-TV (Channel 4) at 7:30 p.m.

Another victory would tie him with Cris Pannullo for sixth most all-time, according to The Jeopardy! Fan, an extensive online database dedicated to “Jeopardy!” statistics.

The record for most “Jeopardy!” wins is held by current host Ken Jennings, who won 74 straight games in 2004, earning him more than $2.5 million.

Who is Jamie Ding?

Ding is a 2009 graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School. There, he was an honor student, a National AP Scholar and placed highly in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ high school championship, according to the Grosse Pointe News.

Former Grosse Pointe North Principal Tim Bearden said he has been following Ding’s run on “Jeopardy!”

“I remember Jamie well as a brilliant young man and excellent student. I’m not surprised at all at his success and I’m super happy for him!” Bearden, now the superintendent of West Ottawa Public Schools, said in an email.

Ding’s father is Yuchuan Ding, a professor of neurosurgery at Wayne State University.

Now a bureaucrat and law student, Jamie Ding currently resides in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
