Best places to work in 2026, according to employees

What do two mortgage companies, two insurance firms, and a certified public accountant have in common? They are among the best places to work in the U.S. in 2026, according to American employees.

The sixth annual national survey, a collaboration between Energage and USA TODAY, recognizes midsize and large organizations with at least 150 employees that are exceeding national benchmarks for employee satisfaction.

Energage surveyed 2,375 organizations throughout 2025 and recognized 1,661 thanks to their standout employee feedback on factors like pay and benefits, direction and leadership, meaningfulness, and appreciation.

The top winners of the “USA TODAY Top Workplaces” award among large employers are:

  1. Fannie Mae, a mortgage lending company based in Washington, D.C.
  2. Fairway Home Mortgage Corp., a mortgage lending company based in Madison, Wisconsin.
  3. Plante Moran, a certified public accountant and consulting firm in Southfield, Michigan.
  4. Progressive Insurance, a general insurance company based in Mayfield Village, Ohio.
  5. The Baldwin Group, a general insurance company based in Tampa, Florida.

Fannie Mae, Fairway Home Mortgage, Plante Moran and Progressive Insurance also ranked in the top five workplaces of 2025.

The survey identified winners in four size categories: companies with 2,500-plus employees, those with 1,000 to 2,499 employees, those with 500 to 999 employees, and those with fewer than 499 employees. Energage ranks the top 100 employers in each of these categories, then lists the remaining winners in alphabetical order.

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a celebration of excellence,” says Energage CEO Eric Rubino. “It serves as a reminder of the vital role a people-first workplace experience plays in achieving success.”
