The number of goal contributions Benjamin Nygren needs to enter Celtic record books

Benjamin Nygren is on the verge of writing himself into the Celtic history books after reaching 20 goal involvements in his debut Scottish Premiership season, a mark only a handful of players have managed in recent years.
Nygren is outperforming his xG and his performances have even seen Manchester United linked with the Sweden international.
The 24-year-old has delivered 15 goals and five assists, matching the immediate impact Jota produced in the 2021-22 campaign. Now that he is level with Jota, his next step is to match and beat the records of Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.
Is Nygren Celtic’s most important player?
If not, who is?

Benjamin Nygren can beat Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair record
Only Dembele and Sinclair have had better debut seasons when it comes to goal contributions.
The former managed 22 in his first campaign whereas Sinclair finished his first season on 28, meaning that Nygren needs nine more to beat that tally.
With six league games to go, it would require a real purple patch that could have been made slightly easier had Hyunjun Yang not been awarded the goal against Dundee.
Although some supporters question what Nygren actually offers to the team, it is obvious that without his contributions, any chances of the Hoops being in the title race would be non-existent.

Benjamin Nygren needs to start every game for Celtic in title race
Like him or not, the 24-year-old is always in the right place at the right time and Martin O’Neill needs someone like that.
After seeing how Tomas Cvancara struggled against Dundee and the Bhoys’ overall lack of killer instinct in front of goal this year, it would be self-sabotage to drop your top scorer at this stage.
St Mirren and Rangers are the only sides he hasn’t scored against in the final run of games this season, but there is every chance that may change.
