Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA: Anthony Smith submits Chase Sherman
Anthony Smith tapped out Chase Sherman in Round 1to advance in the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA heavyweight tournament.
Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA returned Friday with an event in the Dominican Republic featuring a plethora of familiar names and the opening round of the promotion’s heavyweight and lightweight tournaments.
Headlining the event, which streamed live on YouTube and can be replayed here on MMA Junkie in the video below, was former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith, who ended his combat sports retirement to take on Chase Sherman in a heavyweight quarterfinal.
It was a relatively easy night back in action for “Lionheart.” Smith worked on the outside, picking his shots behind a left jab. Sherman was busted open early as he marched forward, struggling to deal with the speed disadvantage. Smith caught a kick and took the fight to the mat, where he hunted for submissions while adding a few ground and pound shots. Sherman gave up his back, Smith slapped on a rear-naked choke, and the tap quickly followed.
In the co-feature, another former 205-pound title challenger in the UFC, Thiago Santos, clashed with Guto Inocente, notching a first-round TKO finish.
