Davis, Kald, Rep named 2025-26 finalists for Top Defenceman Award

Wyatt Davis (Alberni Valley Bulldogs), Erik Kald (Sherwood Park Crusaders) and Ozbej Rep (Prince George Spruce Kings) have been named finalists for the 2025-26 Top Defenceman Award.

In his third BCHL season, Davis reached career highs in all offensive categories, tying for the league lead in goals by defencemen with 17 and finishing tied for third in points with 44 in 53 games.
The Cobden, Ont. product became a power-play specialist in 2025-26, scoring seven times with the man advantage, tied for second most among BCHL defencemen, easily surpassing his previous career high of two set last season. He also scored twice shorthanded, which was the most in the league at his position. The Stonehill College commit registered three points in a single game on five separate occasions.
Erik Kald – Sherwood Park Crusaders
Despite not joining the Crusaders until late October, Kald finished tied for third in points from the back end with 44 in 42 games. He had the second-best points per game among defenceman with a rate of 1.05 per contest and finished one back of the position lead in goals with 16.
On Oct. 31, in just his third game in the BCHL, the Merrimack College commit recorded a five-point night when he piled up two goals and three assists in a win over the Okotoks Oilers. Kald also notched his first hat trick in the BCHL in a rematch with the Oilers on Feb. 14.
Ozbej Rep – Prince George Spruce Kings
Rep was the 2025-26 league leader in points by defencemen with 52 in 54 contests. He also led all BCHL blueliners with 46 assists, just two back of the overall league lead in helpers. The 20-year-old Slovenian had the most power-play points among all skaters with 33, as well as the most power-play assists with 30.
Rep put together 15 multi-point games during the season, including a back-to-back where he combined for six assists in a pair of wins over the Nanaimo Clippers in mid-October. His contributions with the man advantage were a big part of the Spruce Kings owning the second best power play in the BCHL in 2025-26 with a 30 per cent success rate.

Finalists were determined after a vote among the 20 BCHL head coaches and general managers. Winners will be announced between Rounds 2 and 3 of the playoffs.
