New law enforcement leaders prepare for Chilifest in Snook

BURLESON COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Law enforcement officials are preparing to monitor Chilifest as new leadership takes charge of security for the annual music festival.
This year marks the first Chilifest for Snook Chief of Police Steven Huron. It will also be the first time Burleson County Sheriff Bill Rios monitors the festival since being elected.
Sheriff Rios said officers and deputies will be stationed throughout the area, with Texas DPS monitoring roads for impaired drivers.
“We’ve got plenty of officers on the streets, and deputies on the streets. Texas DPS will be out there monitoring the roads for impaired drivers. So, if you’re thinking about drinking and driving, you might want to think different,” Rios said.
Huron said he will patrol Snook city limits during the festival.
“So, my focus is going to be staying contained in city limits because there’s only one of me here.” Huron said.
Safe transportation is one of the main concerns surrounding the festival. Nathan Park and his friends say planning rides ahead of time is necessary because of limited cell service in the area.
Sheriff Rios said law enforcement will help those who ask for a ride home.
“If you’re asking for a ride home, and you might be a little tipsy, that’s fine, we’re going to take care of ya, because you’re being responsible,” Rios said.
Chief Huron encouraged festivalgoers to look out for each other and ask law enforcement for help if needed.
Law enforcement officials encourage attendees to plan ahead and set up a sober ride before arriving at the festival.
