Man charged with murder after U.S. Marine stabbed in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a U.S. Marine in downtown Wilmington.
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) says Davy Spencer, 47, of Wilmington, was arrested following an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. WPD has charged Spencer with second-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.
Officers responded to reports of multiple fights in the 100 block of North Front Street around 2 a.m. Sunday, April 5. According to WPD, Daniel Montano, 21, was stabbed by Spencer and died despite life-saving efforts.

According to arrest warrants, two other victims were involved in the fight. Warrants alleged Spencer assaulted them with a folding pocket knife “with the intent to kill” them.
Court records state Spencer is being held without bond.
