Teen killed, four hurt in suspected DUI crash in Novato – The Press Democrat

A teenager was killed and four others injured when their vehicle slammed into a utility pole in northern Novato early Saturday morning. Police said the 17-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The driver and passengers were taken to the hospital, where one passenger was pronounced dead, police said. The others were described as being in serious to critical condition.
Police were called to the solo-vehicle crash at San Marin Drive and Simmons Lane just before 1 a.m. The teens were between 16 and 18 years old. Police said speed was a factor in the crash.
None of the teens are believed to be from the city, according to police. Their identities were not released.
Authorities closed roads in the area for hours as the investigation was conducted. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the police traffic unit at 415-897-4361.
