Step aside Slow Horses, The Copenhagen Test is the “fantastic” Channel 4 spy thriller to watch this weekend

If you’ve been looking for a fantastic spy thriller to fill the Slow Horses void in your life, we’ve got just the show for you. The Copenhagen Test, which wowed audiences when it premiered on Peacock at the end of last year, has landed on Channel 4 just in time for the weekend – and let’s just say Slow Horses has a bit of competition at last!

Set in the near future, the series follows army veteran and spy Alexander Hale (Simu Liu), who discovers his brain has been hacked, giving his foes access to everything he sees and hears. According to Channel 4’s Head of Acquisitions, Polly Scates, the “sharp, twisty premise will grip audiences from the start” – and, having binged it all ourselves, we can confirm it will do exactly that.

Before you tune into The Copenhagen Test this weekend, here’s everything you need to know about the spy thriller, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is The Copenhagen Test about?

Peacock

Described by Channel 4 as a “high-stakes espionage thriller”, the eight-part series stars Marvel’s Simu Liu and Scream’s Melissa Barrera as Alexander Hale and Michelle Cyr, agents at The Orphanage who are working on very different – and very dangerous – missions. When Hale learns that he’s not only suspected of being a mole by the organisation, but that he’s also been bio-hacked by an unknown enemy, he goes on a mission to uncover the truth. Cyr, on the other hand, is given the job of monitoring the accused Hale by going undercover as a bartender.

Hale, naturally, wants to give the illusion he’s unaware of the organisation’s suspicions of him, so he works with the Orphanage to track down those responsible. The official synopsis continues: “Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”
