Two Toronto police officers injured during assault arrest at North York apartment building

Two Toronto police officers were injured while attempting to arrest a suspect early Sunday morning in North York.

Toronto police say at approximately 1:09 a.m. they responded to a call for an assault at an apartment building near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue.

Police say that while arresting the suspect, two officers were assaulted.

Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

One officer was, however, transported to the hospital for treatment.

They suffered a serious injury as a result of a bite and will “possibly require surgery,” Det. Const. Amy Davey later told CP24.

She said the suspect was taken into custody and the list of charges they may be facing is still being finalized at this time.

Davey added that police cannot provide any further information about the case as the matter is now before the courts.

The investigation is ongoing.
