The final episode of Kelvin and Liz Fletcher’s ITV show aired today, meaning this time next week a new series will be on our screens in its place. Fletcher’s Family Farm follows the married couple as they navigate life on their farm, not far from Liverpool.

The show has been a regular fixture at 11:30am each week. However, next week this won’t be the case. From Sunday, April 19, Josie’s Taste of the West Country will take over that time slot.

The synopsis for the opening episode of Josie’s Taste of the West Country reads: “Proud Bristolian Josie Gibson goes on a culinary tour of the region, meeting local producers, sampling regional delicacies, and celebrating people, flavours and landscapes.

“She begins in Gloucestershire, saddling up for a scenic ride before meeting Countryfile’s Adam Henson and his special pigs, and helping chef Paul Ainsworth make a decadent fondue – with mustard that was written about by William Shakespeare,” as reported by The Mirror.

Series four brought some remarkable highs for the Fletcher family, alongside some truly devastating lows. Not only were the family forced to vacate their farmhouse following a fire, but they also made the tragic discovery that their cow, Cherry, had died.

Kelvin said: “It’s absolutely heartbreaking. I’ve no idea at all about what’s caused it. I’m just surprised how shocking it is, to be honest, I’m just having a bit of shock.”

It comes after the ECHO reported how Kelvin and Liz revealed their aspirations for their children to eventually inherit the farm as they contemplated what lies ahead. In an ITV episode aired in March, the couple discussed the Fletcher’s products they market, which contribute to “keep the farm thriving”.

The pair, who found themselves without accommodation following a recent blaze, came up with a plan to generate income from their sheep’s fleece. Liz detailed how shearing the animals actually costs them money, and by converting the wool into blankets, they could recoup some of those expenses.

She highlighted the harsh reality confronting farmers, needing to expand their operations to boost earnings because “farmers are struggling”.

Expressing her vision for what’s to come and the significance of involving their children in the agricultural business, Liz said: “Having the kids involved and helping just makes it special, because they’ll one day, hopefully, take over, and me and Kelvin can be in the Bahamas.

“So I’m hoping that the kids are doing all this, and we’re just sitting back, and they’re sending us money.”

Kelvin added: “You know what I would actually love, let’s say in, I don’t know, 20 years from now, that I’m just kind of the farm handyman, the farm labourer, and that the kids are running a big farming enterprise.”

Liz asked if Kelvin would ever let go of the business, to which he added: “I think that’s probably the hardest thing for most farming families, to let go.”
