Sadie Robertson reveals daughter’s ‘terrifying’ choking incident

Hands-only CPR can help save a life. See the 2 steps to know

Hands-only CPR can buy time until someone with more skills can help, while alleviating the concern people may have over providing rescue breaths.

Former “Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson is opening up about her 8-month-old daughter’s “truly terrifying” choking incident.

In an April 11 Instagram post, Robertson, 28, revealed her daughter, Kit, stopped breathing after choking on a piece of food.

“I’m currently walking through the waves of anxiety from the trauma of the situation, and the immense gratitude for the miracle of Kit’s full recovery and God’s undeniable hand on this situation,” she wrote.

Robertson, who shares three daughters with husband Christian Huff, said Kit was sitting in her high chair eating a snack when she began to choke.

“Within seconds, you could tell the severity of the situation,” she said, adding that she began CPR while her mother called 911.

Kit “miraculously” coughed and began to breathe as first responders arrived. The infant was taken to the hospital and kept overnight for observation but is now “perfectly healthy,” Robertson said.

Robertson’s post included a video of her sleeping daughter alongside text reading, “miracle.”

“This feels hard to talk about in my real life, much less on social media, but I do feel it is worth sharing because I truly believe awareness of it will save lives,” she wrote.

The 28-year-old said she had previously watched videos about child CPR protocol, and encouraged others to do the same.

“I am one of those people who likes to be prepared for all situations, so I’ve watched several videos while hoping and praying I would never have to use this knowledge. I can only explain it now like my body just knew what to do,” Robertson said.

She added: “Sharing this as a testimony, and also as an encouragement for everyone to learn what to do in the case of an emergency. It happened SO fast, and I’m so thankful I was able to go straight into action!”

How to perform child CPR

CPR, short for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency lifesaving procedure for when the heart stops beating, according to the American Heart Association.

If an infant or child stops breathing, perform the following steps, according to the organization:

  1. Make sure the scene is safe.
  2. Shout for help.
  3. Provide CPR with compressions and breaths.
    • Push on the middle of the child’s chest 30 times at a depth of 2 inches with one or two hands.
