‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Trailer Analysis

Citizens of Panem, get ready for the Hunger Games’ golden jubilee. The trailer for the upcoming film Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping shows a world bigger than ever. The latest film in the series follows the early days of Katniss Everdeen’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, back when he was playing in the Games. He is chosen to compete in the second Quarter Quell, which happen every 25 years and always include an extra-special twist. This time, the Games include twice the participants from each District, making the total number of competitors 48 — 47 of whom must die. “Twice the number of tributes,” Glenn Close (as a terrifying Drusilla Sickle) rejoices. “Twice the glory!”
More tributes means a bigger cast, and Sunrise on the Reaping is loaded to the brim with familiar faces. Unlike Close, who is playing a new creation, most of the famous actors are playing younger versions of already-known characters. There’s Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket. Upon first look, Fanning and her delivery of the line “I confess to having a moment” stand out.
In addition to new cast, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will be returning as Katniss and Peeta in some capacity. With all that hoopla, newcomer Joseph Zada, who has never led a major film project before, will have to stand up to them all as Haymitch. Find out if he’s up to the challenge when Sunrise on the Reaping comes out in theaters on November 20, 2026. If he can do it … twice the glory!
