Milwaukee Public Schools cancel after-school activities ahead of severe weather

Storms rip billboard from Milwaukee building on South 27th Street

High winds ripped a billboard off a building near South 27th Street as strong storms moved through Milwaukee early Tuesday.

Milwaukee Public Schools canceled all after-school activities April 14 due to forecasted severe weather, including a tornado watch through the evening.

The announcement, made around 2:30 p.m., includes all activities from 4 p.m. into the night. School will dismiss at the regular time.

The cancelation does not affect the district’s Camps, Community Learning Centers and Safe Places, which will remain open. However, the district statement said families are “encourage to pick up their students early.”

The school district’s announcement comes as severe weather moves across the state April 14, one day after a storm system brought a tornado and strong winds throughout the state.
