WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Seattle needs a regulation win tonight to remain in playoff contention, and Vancouver can stay in the playoff race with a win of any kind. Both teams would be eliminated from playoff contention if Seattle beats Vancouver in overtime/shootout.
The Torrent won its last game, 5-3, in Ottawa, for their first win in an opposing PWHL market in their second to last road game of the season. Seattle’s three third-period goals matched their most in a game with their 6-4 victory over Toronto in January, the only other game the Torrent scored at least five goals.
Julia Gosling has taken the team lead in points with 18 after a two-assist performance against Ottawa. She is averaging 6:08 more time on ice per game this season than last, the third-highest increase in the PWHL, and her 1.72 shots on goal per game increase is second (minimum 25 games each season). With three points in the season series, her two goals at Pacific Coliseum on Nov. 21 were the first in team history.
Danielle Serdachny recorded the first multi-goal game of her career and her second multi-point game in her last five games (1G, 2A versus New York). She had just one multi-point game in the 51 previous games of her career (Dec.17, 2024 with 2A for Ottawa at Boston).
Alex Carpenter is three points away from becoming the first player in PWHL history to record three straight 20-point seasons. The Torrent alternate captain had a secondary assist on the team’s first goal at Pacific Coliseum but has been held off the scoresheet in two straight games. She has only had three pointless streaks reach three games in her career.
Cayla Barnes has scored two of the four goals by Seattle defenders this season, both in her last five games. The Torrent are last with just 7.8% of their goals from the blue line, while the Goldeneyes are first at 24.0%. Lyndie Lobdell has assists in consecutive games, accounting for half of the rookie’s four points this season, and fellow defender Anna Wilgren has two of her season’s five assists in two games against Vancouver.
Seattle will have local support at Pacific Coliseum tonight with a fan bus of 50 making the trip to experience the PWHL’s Pacific Northwest rivalry in person. The team also connected with hundreds of fans during an open practice on Sunday in a packed Kraken Community Iceplex.
The Torrent are the only team the Goldeneyes have yet to lose against. Vancouver has an overtime win at home and a Takeover Tour win at Ball Arena in Denver. Vancouver has averaged 3.5 goals per game against Seattle, its highest output against a single opponent and the second-highest mark allowed by Seattle (4.3 to the Frost).
Vancouver has lost three games in a row, all of which have been away from home (two road games, one neutral site). At home this season, the Goldeneyes are averaging 2.7 goals per game compared to 1.44 when they are not; the 2.7 average at home would be the second highest in a team’s first PWHL season (Montréal, 3.09 in 2024).
Sophie Jaques scored the Goldeneyes’ lone goal, unassisted, against the Fleet in Edmonton, taking the team lead with eight goals on the season. That matches the most goals scored by a defender in a season in league history with Ella Shelton in 2024-25. She has goals in consecutive games for the second time this season and her four points matches the most productive two-game stretch of her career. Six more shots on goal would make her the first defender to 100 in a season.
Claire Thompson has assisted nine different teammates, most in the PWHL, including two different Vancouver goal scorers in the season series where she’s compiled a goal and two helpers. She assisted three different teammates on Apr. 4 against Minnesota, the first three-assist game in team history.
Jenn Gardiner has three points in two games against Seattle (1G, 2A), including a two-point effort with a goal and an assist in tandem with Izzy Daniel on Jan. 25 in Denver. Seven of the Surrey native’s 11 points have come at Pacific Coliseum.
Hannah Miller (20G, 29A) and Sarah Nurse (23G, 25A) are both on the cusp of 50 career PWHL points. Vancouver and New York are the only teams without any current players in the league’s half-century club that has 13 members.
Vancouver (20) and Seattle (19) have allowed the most opening goals this season. The Goldeneyes (15) and Torrent (14) have also scored the fewest first-period goals and have allowed the second and third-most first-period goals this season with Vancouver’s 24 and Seattle’s 23 behind only New York’s 28.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We’re looking forward to being back in Vancouver for our last away game of the season in a great building in front of great fans. Our group competed for the full 60 minutes in Ottawa and showed resilience to bring home three points, and we’ll use that momentum and energy this week to face the Goldeneyes away and at home. We’re taking it one game at a time, keeping to the details and simple play, and will just keep pushing to collect critical points.” – Torrent Head Coach Steve O’Rourke
“It’s been a while since we’ve played Seattle. From watching film over the last two months, we know they want to play heavy and they’re a physical team. We have to make sure that we’re good coming out of our zone and we’ve got to be good in the neutral zone and stop turning the puck over so much. We need to manage pucks and get a good forecheck.” – Goldeneyes Head Coach Brian Idalski
TUESDAY’S GAME: The all-expansion rivalry heats up with two head-to-head games in five days as Vancouver hosts Seattle at Pacific Coliseum tonight before the inaugural season series wraps up Saturday at Climate Pledge Arena. The first 6,000 fans through the doors tonight will receive an exclusive Barbie™ x Goldeneyes Belt Bag to set the stage for a night filled with Barbie-themed game presentations. The Goldeneyes are proud to welcome Campbell River, BC, native Tyler Turner to tonight’s game to read the team’s starting lineup. The Canadian Paralympian won bronze in snowboard cross in Milano Cortina after winning gold and bronze in snowboard events in 2022. He’s also an Amazing Race Canada finalist (second place in Season 9, 2023). He lost both legs below the knee because of a skydiving accident in 2017. Also in attendance will be members of the Vancouver Bandits, Tristan Jass and Mychal Mulder. Jass is a basketball content creator, influencer and viral social media sensation who signed with the Bandits last April. He had surgery to remove a brain tumor in December and is currently in Vancouver training with the Bandits for the next step of returning to high performance basketball. Mulder is starting his first season with the Bandits this year and is a former member of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic and Miami Heat. Earlier this year, Ashton Bell, Gabby Rosenthal and Sydney Bard joined the Canucks Autism Network’s Move, Learn & Connect: Sports for Girls program for an evening of roller skating at Rolla Skate Club across from Pacific Coliseum. Members of the organization will be at tonight’s game. The team also looks forward to hosting another evening with the Sophie’s Sisters initiative that includes a post-game meet-and-greet with Sophie Jaques.
