BYU fans react to Rob Wright III’s return to Cougars – Deseret News

It’s a celebration for Cougar Nation.

BYU point guard Rob Wright III has decided to withdraw from the transfer portal and return to Provo for his junior season, giving Kevin Young his biggest win of the offseason thus far.

Additionally, Wright chose to remain at BYU instead of transferring to Kentucky, which delighted Cougar fans to know that he turned down Mark Pope.

Here are some of the most notable reactions from social media regarding Wright’s return to BYU.

Rob Wright is returning to BYU, sources told ESPN. Wright entered the transfer portal and visited Kentucky, but will head back to Provo. He was a third-team All-Big 12 selection after averaging 18.1 points and 4.6 assists, shooting 41% from 3. Massive news for Kevin Young. pic.twitter.com/tMnzZ4cZvj

Big for BYU. Had been trending this way in the past 20 hours. My understanding is Wright’s camp wanted to *really* test the market on a bigger NIL number after BYU wouldn’t budge, but amid all that hoopla, Wright wasn’t really that eager to play at a third school in three years. https://t.co/EWuEVsHrYt

The @BYUMBB trio of Wright III, Chandler & Branch will not get quite the hype of Wright III, Saunders & Dybantsa but there won’t also be the preseason hype and scrutiny. @robertwr1ght will be an All American next season. @Big12Conference

Rob Wright is a great player and gives BYU an incredibly important piece for continuity and a productive and dynamic point guard. That alone is worth celebrating his return.

By spurning Mark Pope and Kentucky that puts him up a few notches in BYU lore.

BYU slowly destroying the “BYU only gets dudes by being highest bidder” myth.

Most dudes who play at BYU like it there. They like the school, they like the fans, the like the coaches, they like the admin, they like the community.

Welcome back, Rob. https://t.co/OL5zo7Od7F

Crazy but true.
Kentucky has signed 1 5 star transfer/recruit in the last 3 classes.

BYU has signed 4

Fantastic news! 🎉 🤩

Here’s to hoping RWIII passes first a little more often, then opens up for the quick kickout 3 (shooting at over 40%).

That would be unstoppable. 😉 https://t.co/lwLKXWJMLj

Always nice to have an offensive engine, should have more space to operate next year too which I think will make Rob’s decision to comeback well worth it for him

BIG portal news, as Robert Wright III will officially remove his name from the portal and return to BYU, per @TheFieldOf68.

Joins a REALLY fun BYU team that will also include Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler and five-star Bruce Branch.

And that staff isn’t done yet either😏😏 pic.twitter.com/AMOq4lKaUq
