Elly De La Cruz makes history with a feat that hasn’t happened since 1900

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Elly De La Cruz continues to rewrite the record book with a rare blend of power and speed not seen from a shortstop in more than a century.
Through the team’s first 16 games, the Cincinnati Reds’ two-time All-Star recorded at least five home runs and five stolen bases, making him the first Major League Baseball shortstop since 1900 to reach both marks that quickly.
The 24-year-old De La Cruz is on pace for a 50-50 season — 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases — a feat only Shohei Ohtani has accomplished.
