For the second consecutive season, the El Paso Locomotive are in the round of 32 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, earning them a chance to face a Texas MLS team.
This year, that’s a struggling Houston Dynamo team off to a 2-4 start in MLS. The Locomotive, meanwhile, are 6-0-1 across all competitions, including two Cup wins to reach this game. Last year in this round, El Paso had a two-goal lead at Austin before Austin subbed in its top players at halftime and rallied for a 3-2 win.
As the higher-division team and at home, Houston is favored to win the game, which will be streamed on Paramount+.

What is the U.S. Open Cup?
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament hosted by USA Soccer and independent of the American leagues. It began with 80 teams across every level of soccer, including amateur teams and 16 MLS team.
The MLS teams are entering the tournament now, in the third round, the round of 32. As a USL Championship team, the Locomotive had to win two games to reach this point.
El Paso Locomotive record
After a 2-2 tie in their opener, the El Paso Locomotive have won six straight across all competitions and are now 6-0-1. They are 4-0-1 and in first place in the USL Championship, and have also won two U.S. Open Cup games, including a 4-0 win against arch-rival New Mexico on April 1.
