Wisconsin cancels Thursday’s statewide tornado drill

(WLUK) — There will be no statewide tornado drill in Wisconsin this year.
Wisconsin Emergency Management says it decided to cancel Thursday’s drill in light of the severe weather that has impacted the state this week. With emergency management, local agencies and affected people responding to and recovering from the impacts of the storms, state officials say the drill would place additional strain on already stretched resources.
“While tornado preparedness is critically important, our immediate priority is on the safety and recovery of those impacted by these recent storms,” Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle said in a news release. “We recognize the value of these drills, but at this time, our communities need the flexibility and focus on real-world responses.”

The drill, which would have taken place in the afternoon and evening, is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state.
