Rochelle Humes has once again addressed whether we’ll ever a see a reunion for The Saturdays as she told how she was ‘paid more’ in S Club Juniors than in the girl group.
The singer and presenter rose to fame as part of the spin-off of the British pop group S Club 7 alongside Frankie Bridge in the early 2000s, before the pair later joined The Saturdays in 2007.
The five-piece girl group went on to rack up thirteen top 10 records, and five top 10 albums – including hits ‘What About Us,’ ‘Issues’ and ‘Up.’ But their hiatus began in 2014, with each member of the group following their own solo career paths, with Rochelle moving more into presenting and setting up numerous businesses, including baby and family brand, My Little Coco.

But speaking to Jamie Laing on the latest episode Great Company podcast, Rochelle revealed: “I made more money in S Club Juniors than I did in The Saturdays. The music industry… the money just went out of it. It wasn’t the same space to be in anymore.”
Referring to her time in The Saturdays, Rochelle revealed she was paid what was like a “salary” and was expected to live a certain type of lifestyle, but most of her money actually came from brand deals and touring rather than the group’s singles and albums.
“When someone says your record deal is X amount of money, that doesn’t mean that’s what we’re making. That means they’ll put this money into the album, pay these producers, the marketing budget. For a period of time, music artists were making money touring. The tours and the brand deals was where you would make your money. The records weren’t for us. So we’d be the face of a shampoo and all have our own scent – that’s where we’d make our money. Those brand deals were really important to us, and so was the touring.

“But then record labels changed their whole strategy, and they would do what they would call 360 deals. So they would then also take a cut of the brand [deals], and then take a cut of the live performances. You’ve got to remember everything you earn, split that in half, basically with tax and an agent. And then there’s five of you. You’re expected to live a lifestyle that you can’t always prop up.”
It was then at the end of the interview that Jamie asked Rochelle if a The Saturdays reunion would ever be on the cards. In response, she laughed and said: “Blake, is that you? My son is desperate for it to happen! Is that Blake Humes?” Jamie replied: “You would deny Blake?”
Rochelle said: “Do you know what? I wouldn’t deny him of anything in life. But do you know what? To be totally totally honest with you, we can barely get a dinner in. Like our group chat, Una’s like, ‘I’m over from Ireland this week. Who’s free?’ And it will be like one of us at each time. And Vanessa’s just had a baby. Mollie’s also got a young family.
“We actually sort of spoke topline on it the other day because I think just imagine anytime any of us announce something new, people assume it’s [that]… I then feel like I’m like disappointing so many people…Anytime there’s like a Mighty Hoopla announcement, they think it’s us. And the you got the irony is JLS are doing my mighty Mighty Hoopla this year and the clues made it sound like it was going to be us and they were raging.
“They were like, ‘Marvin are you joking? We wanted your wife and her group!’ So look, I’m grown enough to say never say never, 100%. And you know we don’t sort of close the door on it. We never have. Never say never. Get us to a restaurant first. Get us for a cocktail and then that’s good.”
