Seton Hall facing total rebuild – again

By ADAM ZAGORIA

A year ago, Shaheen Holloway had to bring in 11 new players and his team was picked last in the Big East Conference.

The Pirates finished fourth and made a run for the NCAA Tournament after a complete rebuild.

Now it looks like Holloway will have to do it all over again.

Every player on the Seton Hall roster with eligibility, except Trey Parker, has hit the transfer portal: Budd Clark, Tajuan Simpkins, Najai Hines, Elijah Fisher, Mike Williams, Godswill Erheriene, Jacob Dar and Jahseem Felton are the key losses.

Hines, a key building block for Holloway, committed to Dan Hurley and UConn on Wednesday after visiting. Like he did when Kadary Richmond left for St. John’s, Holloway will have to face Hines at least twice next season in the Big East.

The Pirates this week did secure a commitment from Plainfield, N.J. native and Texas transfer point guard Simeon Wilcher.

They are set to host Manhattan transfer forward Will Sydnor on Wednesday. The 6-8 forward from The Bronx averaged 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds en route to MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2024-25 before sitting out this past season with an injury.

He fits the prototype of a tough mid-major player who could excel at the high-major level under Holloway.

“My priority is going to be shooting the basketball,” Holloway said after the season. “Get some shooters, just bring guys in that fit me and fit the program, but definitely shooting is going to be a big priority.”
