British man, 77, dies after tourist bus crashes in Canary Islands

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said on X her “thoughts are with those affected by the tragic incident involving a bus carrying British holidaymakers”.

“We are in touch with the local authorities and ready to support Brits and their families,” she added, sharing details of the Foreign Office contact numbers.

President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, offered his “support to the victims and their families”.

La Gomera is the second smallest of Spain’s Canary Islands – it is about 50 minutes by ferry from Tenerife, the largest.

It is known as a popular destination for hikers, with its volcanic mountains criss-crossed with trails.

The Canary Islands are a popular holiday destination for Brits – around 3.83 million visited in 2025, with around 70,000 heading to La Gomera, according to the Canary Islands Tourism Observatory.
