Small plane makes emergency landing on Hwy 14 in Vancouver

VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) – A small plane made an emergency landing on Highway 14 in southeast Vancouver on Saturday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The landing happened around noon on the eastbound lanes near milepost 2, according to WSDOT. The highway was closed for about two hours.
Crews with the Vancouver Fire Department were sent to the scene around 12:30 p.m. where they found the Cessna parked in the grass on the shoulder of the road.
According to firefighters, the plane had a “mechanical issue” shortly after takeoff from Pearson Field. The pilot – the only person on board – was able to safely land and then taxi onto the side of the road. No one was hurt and the plane didn’t hit any cars.
An eyewitness who shared video with FOX 12 said she and her husband were initially confused as they approached the scene.
“My first thought was, ‘That is not something you see every day,’” she said.
She added that from a distance, she thought it looked like a boat tipped over until her husband noticed what appeared to be wings.
“Obviously, we want to make sure everyone’s safe, and nobody got hurt,” the eyewitness said. “That was crazy that there was no cars involved or anything, and that the plane look to be in good condition.”
