Reds news: Cincinnati casually accomplished a feat never seen before in MLB history

The Cincinnati Reds earned a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, making it the club’s 13th victory on the season. Interestingly enough, the win allowed the franchise to reach an accomplishment never seen before in MLB history.

Reports indicate the Reds are undefeated (10-0) in one-run and two-run games this season, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. Cincinnati is officially the first team in the NL to go 10-0 in those contests ever in league history.

“The Cincinnati Reds are 10-0 in one-run and two-run games this year,” reported Nightengale. “They are the first National League team to accomplish the feat in MLB history.”

That’s impressive, no matter how you look at it. Especially considering 10 of the club’s 13 wins so far this season are one-run or two-run victories. Cincinnati seems to be building up on the 2025 campaign that saw the franchise reach the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The Reds’ offense has been decent so far this season. Elly De La Cruz leads the way out of the shortstop position, while rookie slugger Sal Stewart is making a name for himself early in the campaign. Stewart, who is 22 years old, has recorded 22 hits, seven home runs, 17 RBIs, and four stolen bases. He is one of the hottest hitters in the league right now with a .297 batting average.

Cincinnati will have an opportunity to earn another close win on Sunday when they take on the Twins in the third contest of the three-game series. A victory would also give the Reds a sweep over Minnesota before beginning the next series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
