Ferry service from and to the Horseshoe Bay terminal is delayed due to a police incident on Sunday.
The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) says that officers are currently on scene “to provide assistance to a member of the public.”
Sheila Reynolds, senior communications advisor at BC Ferries, confirmed the incident but can not provide more information at this time.
“I can confirm that police and other emergency services are in attendance at Horseshoe Bay, and they have been there since just shortly after noon today,” she told 1130 NewsRadio.
“Emergency services have requested that no vessels arrive or depart while the incident is being managed.”
According to BC Ferries departure schedule, the vessels to and from Horseshoe Bay and Langdale on the Sunshine Coast, Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove on Bowen Island, and Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island are holding in dock due to the incident.
The company says that the 11:55 p.m. sailing to Snug Cove on the Queen of Capilano, the 12:10 p.m. sailing to Langdale on the Queen of Surrey, and the 1:25 p.m. sailing to Nanaimo on the Queen of Cowichan have been delayed.
BC Ferries has not provided an update on later scheduled ferry departures.
“As soon as the incident is resolved, the vessel will resume service,” the company said.
Brad, one caller to the 1130 NewsRadio newsroom, reports that he is currently on the Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay ferry, scheduled to arrive at 12:35 p.m.
“It stopped short of the unloading area, and we are sitting on the water, and they said there is a police incident on at Horseshoe Bay, and we have to stay on the water for an indefinite amount of time while they work out the incident,” he said.
“And no end insight.”
Police add that people at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal are advised to avoid the area where officers are currently dealing with the incident.
