Portland police make arrest in stabbing on Congress Street

Portland police arrested a woman following a stabbing that occurred near Longfellow Square on Saturday night.
At about 5:25 p.m. on April 18, police responded to a report of a man covered in blood on Congress Street. Officers found a 45-year-old man who reported he had been stabbed, and he was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, police arrested a 44-year-old woman, who they said is homeless, and charged her with domestic violence aggravated assault. She was brought to Cumberland County Jail.
This is the second recent stabbing near Longfellow Square. In November, Portland police said they arrested a man after he stabbed another man in the face in an “unprovoked” attack.
