2 dead after planned fight leads to mass shooting at Winston-Salem park: SBI

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WLOS) — Two people have been confirmed dead after a mass shooting at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation announced.
According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, an initial investigation suggests that a planned fight involving two young people led to the shooting. Police said “multiple individuals began shooting at each other” after the situation escalated, and there are multiple victims.
The exact number of victims is not known at this time. Some of those involved in the incident are confirmed to be juveniles, police said.

Several individuals—both victims and suspects—have been identified and located. Due to the number of people involved, efforts are ongoing to account for everyone,” the Winston-Salem Police Department said via an X post.
The shooting occurred at Leinbach Park, which is next to Jefferson Middle School, law enforcement officials said. Officials said class is operating as normal at the school.
The police department said several roads are closed as law enforcement responds to the shooting incident, including Norman Road at Robinhood Road and Sally Kirk Road at Norman Road.
Officials said this is an isolated incident and remains under investigation.
