Bumrah, who had primarily bowled after the powerplay in previous games, was handed the new ball for the first time this season. The India fast bowler responded immediately, removing Sudharsan with his opening delivery to put Gujarat on the back foot.

This was the seventh time Bumrah bowled the first over in an IPL innings. He previously did so twice in 2014, three times in 2018 and once in 2022. The early breakthrough could boost Bumrah’s confidence as Mumbai Indians look to defend their total and build momentum in the tournament.
