Jim Parsons is looking back on his time as Sheldon Cooper with gratitude—but not necessarily longing.
The Big Bang Theory followed a group of socially awkward scientist friends navigating work, friendship and relationships, with Parsons portraying Sheldon Cooper, a brilliant but eccentric physicist known for his rigid routines, lack of social awareness and sharp intellect.
While appearing on The View on Friday to promote his role in Broadway’s Titanique, the Emmy-winning actor reflected on his 12-season run on The Big Bang Theory, and whether he’d ever consider stepping back into Sheldon’s shoes.

“I don’t believe I would do a reboot,” 53-year-old Parsons said, per Decider. “I can’t say I miss him, partly because, especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor, there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.”
For Parsons, who won four Primetime Emmy Awards for the role, Sheldon remains a defining part of his legacy—which the actor acknowledges even now.
“There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was” that the actor says he still carries with him, adding that he still gets “so much reaction to it.”
In fact, fan enthusiasm continues to catch him off guard.

“The longer it goes on, I’m more and more surprised when people approach me about it,” he admitted. “Not because I’m stupid, but because I’m like, oh, it makes sense, but I’m just not thinking it. But it’s always really sweet.”
The show ultimately ended after Parsons decided season 12 would be his last, a decision his cast members have said they felt blindsided by. The actor did reprise the role for the Young Sheldon spinoff, saying in a 2024 episode of Today that it was “very weird” but “also very beautiful.”
