WWE sets up Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk

CM Punk may have lost the world heavyweight championship to Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas this past weekend but he was only ever there to begin with because he made sure to stay ready for any opportunity that could present itself. That was his message on the Raw After Mania in the aftermath of the aforementioned defeat, that he wasn’t going to tuck tail and go on vacation but rather stay ready for the next opportunity.
You never know when one might fall from the sky.
Cue WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
They went back-and-forth over how they both feel a bit like losers after WrestleMania — Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to retain his title but he got obliterated in the process, looking like he was hit by a truck — before Punk reiterated he could be looking at another title opportunity anytime. Rhodes took the not-so-subtle hint and outright told him they could do it any time he wants.
Punk just smiled as he walked away.
We still don’t know Rhodes’ status, at least as it pertains to actually working another match. He’s clearly banged up. But they wouldn’t have shot this angle if they weren’t planning on actually going through with this.
The question now is: when?
