Man in custody after hours-long situation locks down Albany City Hall

A man wanted in connection with a Linn County Circuit Court case was taken into custody Monday, April 20, 2026 after a lengthy standoff that prompted lockdowns around downtown Albany, including the Linn County Courthouse and Albany City Hall.

At about 9:36 a.m., the Albany Police Department responded to a wanted subject identified as Alan William Dude, 43, of Albany, in front of the Linn County Courthouse. Police said Dude was parked in a vehicle in the 300 block of SW Fourth Avenue after failing to show up for a Linn County Circuit Court trial that was scheduled to begin that day.

Officers who contacted Dude saw what appeared to be a firearm in his hand, Albany police said.
