‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ A24 Remake To Be Directed by Curry Barker

In regards to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre feature rights won by A24, Obsession director Curry Barker is set to direct and write a reimagined version.

This is separate from the A24 TV series in the works from JT Mollner and producers Glen Powell and Dan Cohen at Barnstorm.

Barker, who cut his teeth making YouTube horror pics and saw his TIFF Midnight Madness title Obsession get snapped up by Focus Features for $15M+ as we first told you, is a hot commodity now. Obsession went on to play SXSW and opens in theaters on May 15. It’s about a young couple’s relationship gone seriously toxic after one of them makes a wish to be loved by the other more.

Producers on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film include Roy Lee and Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, and Stuart Manashil and Exurbia Films’ Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel, and Kim Henkel. Ben Ross of Image Nation will executive produce.The franchise originally began with the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel and starring Gunnar Hansen as the murderous Leatherface.
