Chennai Super Kings stormed to their largest-ever victory over Mumbai Indians, crushing their fellow five-time champions by 104 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday in their IPL 2026 clash.

Sanju Samson stole the show with his fifth IPL century, remaining unbeaten on 101 to power CSK to 207/6. The visitors then rolled MI over for just 104, with Akeal Hosein starring with a four-wicket haul.

Hosein, who finished the game with figures of 4/17 in his 4 overs at an economy of 4.25, recalled Windies legend Dwayne Bravo’s advice to him regarding bowling in the power play overs.

“One thing that sticks with me is what Dwayne Bravo said. He said as bowlers who operate in the powerplay, you’re going to get hit. So as long as you can get that out of your mind and just focus on your plans and what are the batter’s strengths and weaknesses, and what are your strengths and weaknesses are, and as long as you focus on what you’re going to execute and forget about being scared of getting hit, I think you’re fine,” he explained.

Akeal had incredible support from Noor Ahmed, who picked up a couple of scalps himself on the day.

“Always a pleasure to see Noor Ahmad doing his thing. He’s been working really hard. There were a couple of matches that didn’t go his way, so very happy to see him successful again tonight,” he added.

Samson opened for Chennai and anchored the innings, scoring a second CSK century with a 54-ball knock featuring 10 fours and 6 sixes, while partners fell around him. For Mumbai, AM Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar took two wickets each, and Jasprit Bumrah bowled an economical spell of 1/31.

Chennai’s defence started strongly as Akeal Hosein removed Danish Malewar for a duck in the first over, and Mukesh Choudhary dismissed Quinton de Kock for 7 off 10. Hosein then sent back Naman Dhir for 0, reducing MI to 11/3 before Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma tried to rebuild.

Verma’s 37 off 29 ended against Hosein, who claimed his third wicket, while skipper Hardik Pandya was out for 1 off 2 to Noor Ahmed, who also dismissed Sherfane Rutherford for a golden duck next ball. Hosein completed his four-fer by removing Suryakumar for 36 off 30, leaving MI well behind the required rate.

Jamie Overton dismissed Krish Bhagat, and Anshul Kamboj removed Shardul Thakur, both for single-digit scores, before Gurjapneet Singh ended the innings by getting Jasprit Bumrah out, as MI were bowled out for 104 in 19 overs.
