Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame in class of 2026

SEATTLE — Basketball great Sue Bird has been inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2026, adding another milestone to one of the most decorated careers in the sport.
Bird, a longtime Seattle Storm star and five-time Olympic gold medalist, was honored for her contributions to international basketball, where she helped lead the United States to multiple World Cup and Olympic titles over two decades.
Widely regarded as one of the best point guards in women’s basketball history, Bird served as a leader on USA Basketball teams that dominated global competition.
She won four FIBA Women’s World Cup titles and was a central figure in the U.S. team’s extended international winning streak.
Bird spent her entire 21-season WNBA career with the Storm, winning four league championships and becoming the WNBA’s all-time assists leader before retiring in 2022.
In a statement, FIBA praised Bird for her “exceptional leadership, longevity and impact on the global game,” noting her role in helping grow women’s basketball worldwide.
Bird has previously been inducted into multiple halls of fame and is expected to be a first-ballot selection for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame when eligible.
