Why Steelers traded up with Seahawks to draft Gennings Dunker, the viral offensive lineman

The Pittsburgh Steelers wanted one more pick in front of their home fans on Friday night.

It was late in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Steelers pulled off a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

The deal sent picks pick 99 and 216 to Seattle to get the Steelers up to the 96th spot in the draft.

And with that pick, the Steelers chose Gennings Dunker.

He’s a viral offensive lineman from Iowa, which makes it that much more exciting.

Why did the Steelers trade up to draft Gennings Dunker?

The reality is that sending a seventh-round pick to move up three spots isn’t a big cost, even in the middle of the draft.

Pittsburgh clearly saw a player it didn’t want to miss out on, and they went to get him.

The fans got to cheer one more time. It’s been a fun couple of nights of draft action in downtown Pittsburgh, and this made it even better.

Who is Gennings Dunker?

Dunker’s fame comes in large part because he has a bright red mullet, a quality mustache and a bunch of tattoos.

He also has shared his immense meal plan preparing for games, which is a heck of a lot of food.

It ends with postgame Culver’s — a double bacon cheeseburger, family size order of cheese curds or onion rings, and three sides of ranch.

Yep, the 6-foot-5, 319-pound Dunker can certainly eat his fill.

He also started 38 games at right tackle for the Hawkeyes.
