Octopus Energy has made a huge announcement – after hitting the eight million customer mark. Octopus Energy has surpassed 8 million customers in the UK, it has announced on Friday (April 24).
With 2500 customers switching to Octopus every day, the gap has widened since Octopus claimed the top spot in January 2025, the first time the market lead had changed hands since privatisation in 1986.
The growth comes as Octopus also leads a national shift toward low-carbon technology. Since the onset of recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Octopus has seen a 103% surge in heat pump sales and a 78% increase in solar panel sales.

The surge was reported as households look to turn to home grown power and “electrify” their way out of global fossil fuel shocks.
Octopus’s trust ratings are also more than 50% higher than industry rivals, a YouGov survey last month found.
The supplier has consistently held a 5-star Trustpilot rating and is the only energy firm to be a Which? Recommended Provider for nine consecutive years.
