Docherty: “Hopefully we can give the fans the performance they deserve”

Meanwhile, Docherty expects Saturday’s contest to be a tough one, with Hull searching for a play-off place in the Sky Bet Championship.
“We are coming up against a good team that have their own ambitions,” he said.
“We are under no illusions of how difficult it will be. They have got good attacking players, and we will have to be at our best.
“But when you do win in this league, you have to be at your best anyway, so it is a game I am looking forward to.”
Charlton’s number 10 spent four years with the Tigers and was part of the side that secured promotion from League One in the 2020/21 season.
But despite gaining good memories in east Yorkshire, Docherty is full-focussed on the task ahead.
“I will be parking all my previous emotions of the club [Hull City],” he said.
“I am here now, and my full focus is here. I expect a team that will come and attack really well, they score a lot of goals.”
“But I think we can counteract that defensively as well, we are a really strong unit, and we are getting back to where we need to be and what gets us good results.”
“The way we have prepared going into the game I am sure we can go and get a good result.”
Saturday’s clash in SE7 is Charlton’s final home game of the 2025/26 season and another bumper crowd is expected at The Valley.
Indeed, Docherty is thankful for the back that his side has had from the Valley faithful throughout the campaign.
“Thank you, [to the fans]. They always back us, they always turn up, and you always hear them. It is a club that is followed everywhere, that is something I have really started to notice this year.”
“With it being the early kick-off, it has the makings of a great day and hopefully we can go out there and give the fans the performance they deserve and we can all have a nice celebration after the game.”
