Will scattered storms dampen a hot Jazz Fest weekend? See where rain chances stand.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s first weekend is upon us and forecasters are tracking the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms on what should otherwise be a hot and sunny Jazz Fest weekend.
A complex of thunderstorms that is developing around Arkansas and Oklahoma is heading more towards south Louisiana on Friday and could bring potentially strong to severe storms overnight into early Saturday morning, NWS meteorologist Kevin Gilmore said.
In New Orleans, the threat of severe overnight weather is marginal. The Crescent City is more likely to see a few showers and thunderstorms Friday night, forecasts showed.
The Baton Rouge region north of Interstates 10 and 12 and west of Interstate 59 will have slight risk of overnight severe weather, which could include wind gusts greater than 60 mph, large hail and a few tornadoes, according to NWS forecasters.
The storms are expected to move fast.
“It’ll be quickly out of here by a few hours after sunrise on Satuday,” Gilmore said.
On Saturday, forecasters are also looking at another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms in New Orleans for the afternoon into the evening hours. Rain chances sit at 50% Saturday, according to Nola.com meteorologist Damon Singleton.
But confidence about the extent of Saturday afternoon rain remains low. The number of showers will depend on how quickly the overnight rain moves through south Louisiana, Gilmore said, so people who are outside on Saturday should make sure to keep track of weather changes.
Confidence is even lower over what rain could look like on Sunday, as forecasters track another complex of thunderstorms in north Louisiana that could dip down into south Louisiana as it moves.
“If it doesn’t make it, that’s great … but if it does make it, we might have to deal with a quick round of showers and maybe some thunderstorms,” Gilmore said.
Other than the chance of rain, the weekend is expected to be hotter than normal for late April. Highs are expected to be in the low-to-mid 80s Friday and climb closer to the 90s on Saturday.
Gilmore said people who are outside should make sure to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
