Preview: Birmingham City (A)

Bristol City hit the road for the final time this season as they face Birmingham City on Saturday, April 25th (3pm).

The Robins settled for a point at Southampton despite going ahead twice in the game, leaving them 12th in the table with two games remaining.

Interim Head Coach Roy Hodgson praised his side’s 2-2 draw, saying: “I can be proud and pleased with the team with both their attacking and defending phases”.

On returning to the West Country, Hodgson has secured seven points from a possible 15 and with six points up for grabs before the end of the season, he and his side will be hoping to end the campaign on a high.

Bristol City are without a win in any of their previous three trips to St Andrew’s, but after coming away 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, the Robins will be targeting the double.

In positive news, Hodgson confirmed that Adam Randell returns into contention for Saturday’s game, having missed the midweek fixture due to a dead leg.

Following Saturday’s action, City return to Ashton Gate for their final fixture of the 2025/26 season as they host Stoke City on Saturday, May 2nd at 12.30pm.

Overseas supporters will be able to watch all the action live on Robins TV, with FREE pre-match build-up starting from 2.30pm.

Match passes are available for £10 and audio passes are available for just £2.50.

10th-place Birmingham City host 12th-place Bristol City at St Andrew’s, aiming to conclude their home campaign with three points.

Unbeaten in their last three games, beating Wrexham and drawing with Hull City, while Jay Stansfield and Ibrahim Osman scored to beat Preston North End last time out.

Despite their earlier promotion hopes, last season’s League One winners have endured mixed results throughout the season, struggling for consistency and now find themselves comfortably mid-table with two games to go.

ONE TO WATCH: JAY STANSFIELD

Born in Devon, Jay Stansfield crafted his trade at Exeter City, spending nine years a Grecian after joining in 2010 as an under-9.

As a first-year scholar, Fulham acquired the talents of Stansfield, who went on to perform well for the Under-18s side, scoring 26 goals in 18 appearances in 2019/20.

Debuting for the first team in an Emirates FA Cup Third Round fixture against Aston Villa, the forward would then struggle for game time, ultimately returning to Exeter City on a season-long loan in September 2022.

Re-instated the number nine shirt – originally retired in memory of Adam Stansfield, Jay’s late father – the forward wore with pride for 39 appearances and scored nine goals whilst also picking up the EFL Young Player of the Month award in October 2022.

Arriving at St Andrew’s ahead of the 2023/24 season, initially on loan before joining permanently, Stansfield has since made 136 appearances.

Of his 47 goals and 12 assists so far, the Blues’ number eight has netted 11 goals in all competitions and contributed with six assists.
