Instant grades for the Patriots drafting RB Jam Miller in Round 7

Instant grades: Patriots draft RB Jam Miller 245th overall

Matt St. Jean: Jam Miller is short, fast, and without a lot of wear on the tires. He also brings extensive special teams experience. His vision is questionable and his lack of size makes it hard for him, especially in pass protection, but this is about as good as it gets for a day three pick in this running back class. He should compete for a backup job in New England. | Grade: B

Pat Lane: The Patriots needed another running back, and they took Bam Miller out of Alabama. He showed off his speed at the combine, running a 4.42 in the 40. He’s not a special player or anything, but he could come in and compete for a backup role for the Patriots | Grade: C

Andrew Guindon: New England needed running back depth, and they got it with Miller. He’s poor in pass protection and has a lengthy injury history. However, he delivers a lot of power for his size (5-foot-10, 209 pounds) and has immense strait-line speed, running a 4.42 40-yard dash. He brings special teams experience and could be a goal line threat. | Grade: B

The Patriots’ next draft pick is set to come quickly, at No. 247 in the seventh round.
