Trump rushed off stage at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Secret Service agents ran towards US President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting guests to crouch under tables amid reports of a bang.

CNN’s Jake Tapper, who was at the event on Saturday, described the scene:

“We’re just all at this dinner and then all of a sudden — I didn’t hear the bangs but I guess there was a bang. Then there were Secret Service running down this aisle right here,” he said, indicating a gap between the round tables draped in white cloths.

“No one’s on stage right now, but the president was there and Secret Service [ushered] him out,” he said. “People were jumping under tables and people were very upset and worried.”

Tapper said one person, wearing a specialized lapel emblem worn by US Secret Service agents, said “there was a shooter” in the building.

Other members of the administration were also ushered out of the room by Secret Service including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Tapper added.
