Opposition players to watch
Logan Farrington: If Musa doesn’t start, the offensive focus will surely be on the young striker. Since being the No. 3 pick in the 2024 SuperDraft, Farrington has established himself as a dangerous attacking player but seems to have hit a new level this year. He already has four goals in his first nine games, one shy of his career high.
Joaquin Valiente: The Uruguayan midfielder leads Dallas with two assists, but just as importantly is in the 93rd percentile for chances created with 15. He’s a solid passer who has adapted to MLS relatively quickly.
Stats to look smart
21 – Dallas last won a match at Lumen Field in 2011, a stretch of 21 matches including playoffs. That’s the longest winless streak for one opponent at a specific venue in MLS history.
19 – The Sounders have set a franchise record with 19 straight games unbeaten at home across competitions. The last team to beat them at Lumen Field was PSG in the Club World Cup.
Tactics to impress
- Dallas is a team that definitely prefers to play on the counter, willing to accept a fair amount of pressure in exchange for the ability to run into space. When they are at their best, they can get forward as well as anyone.
- The Sounders haven’t quite resumed their high-pressing ways of a year ago and don’t seem particularly likely to change that in this game. But they’ve traded that for one of the top defenses in the league, allowing just three goals in their first seven matches.
