Whitecaps FC are honoured to have Laura Amaral from the club’s Kick Like A Girl YMCA program as Kid Captain for Saturday’s match versus Colorado Rapids.
Laura is a soccer-obsessed almost-seven-year-old who was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and has called Toronto and North Vancouver home. After school, she’s usually the only girl on the pitch, always trying to rally more girls to join her. At the YMCA BC-Whitecaps FC Kick Like a Girl program, Laura was a standout helper to the coaches, stepping in to play with the younger girls and inspiring them to find their own game. She idolizes Brazilian trailblazers Marta and Formiga, who showed that girls play the beautiful game just as beautifully. She never misses a Whitecaps FC match and when she grows up, she plans to be a veterinarian and a Vancouver Rise FC player.
