Drive-by shooting in Limerick village linked to Traveller dispute at Akon concert

A DRIVE-BY shooting linked to a Traveller feud took place in Patrickswell village late on Sunday night, Limerick Live has learned.

A video of the gun attack, which was posted on social media, shows a man wearing gloves pointing a shotgun out of a car window and pulling the trigger.

There are no reports of any injuries to persons or damage to property.

It is understood that no formal complaint had been made to gardai over the shooting incident. However, it is believed that gardaí are aware of posts on social media and are conducting enquiries.

According to one source, the dispute between the two Limerick Traveller families started at an Akon concert in Dublin. It is thought that words were exchanged between members of the families at the Senegalese-American hip-hop artist’s gig over the weekend.

Both Traveller families have put out so-called ‘call out’ videos on social media.

A group of men armed with weapons are standing on the M20 flyover in Dooradoyle (pictured below) while motorists are delayed behind them.

One of the men said: “You came on the phone to me today. You asked me for a location and we gave you a location. We are here on the bridge, we thought you were coming.”

In response, a member of the other Traveller family said in a video: “You said ye would meet us at the bridge in 10 minutes. We were at the bridge in 10 minutes. You decided to show 45 minutes later.

“Three and a half hours before that you were saying you were going to meet me in 20 minutes – you were never going to show up.”

A number of men in the video appear to be carrying handguns.
